Hey Kids!

Plan to join us on August 19th, August 26th and September 2nd for Virtual Visits to McDougall Cottage! Using inexpensive and readily available materials, we’ll have tons of fun together playing games, creating crafts and lots more in these hour long programs! McDougall’s virtual visits are suitable for kids ages 6 to 10.  Pre-registration is required. Required templates and a Zoom link will be sent to participants two days prior to the event. Space is limited, so register soon! Cost is $5.

Wednesday, August 19th  -  Garden Creations - Purchase Tickets Now!

We’ll be using natural materials you can find in your own backyard to create bee abodes for our pollinator pals, unique nature masks and other naturally beautiful artwork!

For this virtual visit you will need:

  • A good assortment of natural materials like, leaves, rocks, pinecones, bark of all sizes and shapes, etc.
  • A  container (e.g. an empty 1L or 2L milk/juice carton, Coffee can, etc.)
  • A mask cut out of stiff paper or cardboard (a template for the mask will be emailed two days prior to the event, or you can use your own design)
  • An assortment of paint colours and brushes
  • Liquid glue
  • White printer paper
  • Crayons 

Wednesday, August 26th   - A Wee Trip to Scotland - Purchase Tickets Now!

We’ll be learning about and crafting cool castles and creatures just like the ones you might find in Scotland!

For this virtual visit you will need:

  • A selection of small boxes, tubes, bottles, etc. to create your castle
  • Construction paper (including white, black, brown)
  • Glue (white or hot glue if an adult is around to help)
  • A sheep body form cut out of stiff paper or cardboard (a template for the sheep’s body will be emailed two days prior to the event)
  • Yarn (white, grey or black)
  • Black markers
  • 2 clothes pins
  • Cardboard tube (toilet paper or paper towel)
  • Googly eyes (or small white circles)
  • 1 piece of white computer paper (other colours are fine too)
  • White glue

Wednesday, September 2nd – Art Attack! - Purchase Tickets Now!

Using some simple techniques and the artwork in McDougall Cottage as inspiration, we’ll have tons of fun creating unique art with paint, playdough and even our own bodies!

For this virtual visit you will need:

  • Playdough in several colours. (Either homemade* or store bought)
  • Cardboard, canvas or hard flat surface to sculpt on
  • An assortment of paint colours and brushes
  • Water cup and paper towel
  • Paper, canvas, etc. to paint on

* Play Dough

  • 1 cup of flour
  • 2 tsp. Cream of Tartar
  • ½ cup salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp. oil
  • Food colouring

Mix all the dry ingredients in a microwaveable bowl. Then add the food colouring to water. Next add the coloured water and oil to the dry ingredients. Microwave on high for approximately 3 minutes or until thick, stirring the mixture every 30 seconds. Cool and knead.
